Alkali Metals

We were talking in chemistry  about displacement reactions: chemical reactions in which a more active element pushes out (displaces) a less active element.

I was explaining that  certain groups of elements, say the alkali metals, all react the same way because they have the same number of electrons in their outer shell (valence), but that as you move down the chart, the reactions tend to be more active (with more and more electrons, that outer shell is further away from the nucleus and the pull of the protons).
