Poems of the Week

This first is one which I (and I would bet you) have known since childhood.

The Purple Cow
by: Gelett Burgess (1866-1951)

 I never saw a purple cow
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I'd rather see than be one!

The second is his follow up verse, published several years later (which I only found earlier this year):

Confession: and a Portrait Too, Upon a Background that I Rue
 by: Gelett Burgess (1866-1951)

 Ah, yes, I wrote the "Purple Cow"—
I'm Sorry, now, I wrote it;
But I can tell you Anyhow
I'll Kill you if you Quote it!
