Poem of the Week

“i thank You God for most this amazing”
by e.e. cummings

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any–lifted from the no
of all nothing–human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

Wendy,

I like this! My girls and I read a lot of poetry but haven't read any by ee cummings. I shall read more. Thank you for sharing.

I also enjoyed your Hamlet post. Last year we had a Hamlet marathon watching as many versions as we could find. Like you, we had favourite Hamlets, Poloniuses, Ophelias... Interesting to compare different actors!

Thanks, Sue! I like to read some ee cummings now and then, although an exclusive diet would drive me crazy!

Have you ever read any Pablo Neruda? He's most known for his sensual love poetry, but I am thinking of you liking The Word. It's wonderful on the level of what it means to be a writer, but also on the level of a meditation on the Word made flesh.
